1. Who we are
Roamsurance is a focused insurance comparison platform that helps digital nomads, freelancers and remote workers abroad compare selected international carriers. We aim to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Data controller:
For enquiries about this service, contact hello@roamsurance.com.
2. What data we collect
Roamsurance is a comparison platform. We collect only the minimum data needed to run the comparison and respond to enquiries.
We may collect:
- Quiz answers — your legal residence, exact age, US-citizenship answer, whether your residence is outside your country of nationality, destination region, trip length, trip type and priorities. Matching runs in your browser. Homepage selections can also appear in the quiz URL, browser history and hosting requests (see section 6). Custom analytics events contain completion counts and carrier-click information rather than individual answer fields; page-view measurements may include URL parameters.
- Contact form details — name, email, topic and message, only if you choose to send them. When you submit the form, the message is sent to hello@roamsurance.com through our email delivery provider (see section 4). We use your email address to reply to you and for nothing else.
We do not collect, request, or store:
- Health information or medical declarations
- Income documents or financial records
- Payment card or bank details
- Insurance application, policy or claims data
When you click through to a carrier's website to get a quote or buy a policy, the carrier collects that information directly under their own privacy policy. Roamsurance does not see it.
3. How we use your data
We use the limited data above to:
- Show you comparison matches based on your quiz answers
- Respond to emails you send via the contact form
- Understand visits, quiz completion and carrier-click intent if you accept optional analytics
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your data, use analytics for advertising, or forward your quiz answers to insurance carriers. When you choose a carrier, you go to that carrier's site yourself and interact with them directly.
4. Who we share data with
Roamsurance uses two kinds of website measurement. Google Analytics is optional and loads only if you choose Accept optional in the cookie banner (or enable Analytics cookies under Manage choices). Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights provide cookie-free aggregate page and performance measurements as part of our hosting setup.
The third parties we may interact with are:
- Google Fonts — loaded from
fonts.googleapis.com to render the site's typefaces. Google may see your IP address as part of the font request.
- Google Analytics — only after your consent, used to understand page views, quiz-completion counts and carrier-click intent. Custom events do not contain individual quiz-answer fields. Page URLs may contain homepage selections, as explained in section 6. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising or ad personalisation.
- Vercel hosting, Web Analytics and Speed Insights — Vercel hosts the site and receives ordinary request data needed to serve it. Its cookie-free analytics products provide aggregate page-view and performance measurements without personal identifiers. Vercel's edge infrastructure may also derive a two-letter country code from your IP address so we can preselect a residence country in the comparison form. Roamsurance does not store the IP address or detected country, and you can change the selection at any time.
- Resend — our email delivery provider, used when you submit the contact form. It processes the name, email address, topic and message you submit to deliver that message to us. Resend is based in the United States and states that message content, delivery logs and related records are stored there. For applicable transfers, Resend's Data Processing Addendum incorporates the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Apple iCloud Mail — hosts the
@roamsurance.com mailboxes that receive your message, so your email is stored there until we delete it (see section 7).
- Regulators — if required by law.
Carriers receive your information only when you choose to click through and interact with them directly on their own website.
5. Your rights under GDPR
As a resident of the EU/EEA, you have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Deletion — request that we delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent — at any time, for processing based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@roamsurance.com. We will respond without undue delay and normally within one month. If a permitted extension is necessary, we will explain why within that month.
6. Cookies and local storage
Roamsurance uses local storage to remember whether you accepted or declined optional Google Analytics. If you accept, Google Analytics may use analytics cookies or similar identifiers to measure website activity. If you decline, Google Analytics is not loaded by Roamsurance. Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights do not use cookies.
Matching runs in page memory. Homepage selections are also passed to the quiz in the page URL; these can appear in browser history and requests received by our hosting provider. If optional analytics is enabled, page URLs may also be included in page-view measurements. Do not put sensitive information in page URLs. Roamsurance does not save a separate quiz-answer profile in browser storage.
The site loads Google Fonts from fonts.googleapis.com for typography. This is not a cookie, but Google may see your IP address as part of that font request.
7. Data retention
We keep data only as long as needed:
- The in-page matching profile lasts for the current visit. URL-based selections may remain in browser history and provider records. Optional Google Analytics retains page-view and custom-event records according to our property settings.
- Contact emails are kept for as long as needed to respond and follow up, then deleted (typically within 24 months).
- Google Analytics events are retained according to the retention settings in our Google Analytics property. Vercel retains aggregate website and performance measurements under its service terms.
8. Data security
We use HTTPS/TLS to protect data in transit. We do not receive or store sensitive insurance information — health declarations, financial records, payment details, applications and claims are handled directly by the carrier on the carrier's own website.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email (if we have your address) or by posting a notice on our website.
